Should one desire a pound of flesh
to balance one's scales of worth
allow me to caution you...
The vessel which houses
you, our eternal beings of light
is proportionally designed
so that shelter from the shadows
can be obtained.
I am left but to question
should that pound of flesh be delivered
at the hands of one who knows not the map
Shelter may well be revoked
based on a technicality found
within the word of the law.
Again, I must caution
should you choose to uphold said word
please do not look down upon this vessel
for the eternal being of light which resides within
learned long ago that "legal" and "moral" are not
found on the same page, no matter
what hand of god has held office
or bought the pound of flesh
from the rump who happens to reside upon the bench.
To truly balance the scales
there is no need for the delivery of any amount of flesh
the hand of god who holds present office
should find within himself
the courage to offer to his people
all of his flesh
in the form of new laws
based not on an economy driven agenda
based upon a desire to build a better world
Should the hand of present god
not know within his heart
what is needed
(ie: compassion, empathy, understanding, love)
then, and only then
should we let our flesh fall upon the steps
of every grand and pompous house of the lord
For it is we
who in our silence
at the hands of our apathy
have allowed the lord his manor.
We're talking "balance" in poetry today at MeetingTheBar with Victoria Slotto...and while I have taken a more "literal" approach to the prompt, I suspect there's some pretty amazing pieces waiting to be read. Join us over at dVerse and give your poetic muscles a stretch!
