The Rising ~ #OpenLinkNight @dVersePoets
At six a.m
I can be confident my phone won't ring.
The child still slumbers
deadline's just fine
until nine.
There are exactly 48 minutes
where the world is mine.
Before it all starts again
lose, draw or win
All mine.
The cattle call out to the sun
as he sends his rays out over the waters
hidden below a fog bank
delivered upon rising tide.
The alarm sounds from upstairs
the squeaking bed springs
telling that soon
the moment will be gone
as I can picture the fierce hand
seeking snooze
there it is
the return of the silence
38 minutes remain.
Smell of coffee now
co-mingling
with the scent of dew soaked grass
Even my note book feels damp
but no matter.
The price paid for the moment
too perfect to know its own value.
I'd almost sell my soul
if it could stay this way forever
28minutes
as Sir Sun climbs higher
Rowdy lion
sending the cattle back for milking
whose light is louder
than the alarm clock
as it signals once again
the end of my reprieve
drawing near.
OpenLinkNight Week 63 gets underway in just a few short hours, and once again I get to tend the bar. Hoping to see you at dVerse...link up's at 3pmEST.

The joy of a few precious moments of peace - and the gut-wrenching anticipation of the impending day. Nice write Tash. Particualrly liked the repeated time references - almost a refrain.
i so love those quiet morning moments as well when the world still sleeps and everything's silent, untouched..barefoot in the dewy grass and even the birds still asleep...a piece of perfection for me..
Okay first, I am in love with that photo!
And i love this poem, grabbing those quiet moments, mine usually come late at night... and I love these lines:
"The price paid for the moment
too perfect to know its own value."
Those are the very best of life's moments.
Precious moments to savor...so few and borrowed..when the world and everthing in it is just yours. Nice write, Tash!
The moments are even more precious, counting them down the way you do, enjoying them so, even as they slip. Love the poem.
A wonderful description of that precious time before the clamouring world awakes and make its intrusive demands. Love this Natasha.
ahh...love the early morning moments....i get roughly an hour in the morning to myself....and it is the most peaceful of my day....and it sets my day right...when i dont get it...its not a good thing...smiles.
I love and protect my mornings, those minutes where I don't have to do anything but be. Most of my writing appears during the solitude of being outside of the world for a while.
I am pleased to find someone who cherishes the slow waking mornings as I do.
Yes, the poet searches for the silence, even though creativity can gestate in chaos. I used to to my office 2 hours early daily to dip deeply into the quiet. Being retired now, the joy of ME-Time and poetic meandering is beyond words.
Those beautiful, precious moments of peace before we must leap into our day. Even reading this brought a touch of that early morning peace as I listen to my dishwasher doing what my hands won't have to.
That's what's known as a little ME time. ☺
those sweet early moments of the day... love how you took us slowly through them
A story of life told poetically and is something beautiful. This poem warmed my heart. I too know the experiences capture here. Lovely, Natasha, lovely.
Such a precious moment in time, the piece describes it so well.
Tash--love this. Silence and peace are precious things, and you savored those moments perfectly here. Thanks so much for sharing them!
Oh my dear, you painted a picture, and can I ever relate!
Love this! I wanted to press snooze to make it last longer!
I love the morning moments when I can think and write, this resonated with me.
Those precious moments of the solitude which is definitely not lonely, beautifully celebrated.
There are exactly 48 minutes

- just a few more minutes - snuggled safe and warm - savoring - especially when it's so cold as it is here brrr :) lovely Tash
Love your description of the early morning ritual and those "quiet moments" before the day begins. :)
stunning! you have painted such a lovely picture here. I weep a bit for the loss that is to come so quickly with the rising sun.
Perfect example of private time - away and quiet - then that darn alarm! K
Those glorious moments...so much peace. Grab as many as you can...they are renewing!
Love your photo too. Beautiful!
A few moments of perfect serenity, well-deserved in a busy day. Whether in early morning or late at night like mine, something to look forward to and strive for, those moments we call our own. Very nicely captured, Natasha.
You brought the outdoors in and your inner self out in this beautiful reverie. Very fine!
Nicely crafted as always Natasha. Really enjoyed the progression of the day! Kudos! Roger ☺
This ranks right at the top of my favorites of your poems, Tash. Thanks for sharing those precious moments.
Love the counting down of those precious minutes in this poem... It grabbed me at 48 and then kept me hooked as the number diminished...
lovely poem, it's odd though hearing the springs of bed after some quite time can be a delightful sound. good read Tash.
I love those quiet moments in the morning...these alarms are annoying but I need it if not I will be late for work ~
Happy OLN to you ~
A wonderful write Tash...I steal those moments everyday...
That is a fantastic shot! I can't tell you how many years I pined for the time to write - evocatively captured!
Yup! Even now, I live like that--well, no cows any more--but.....
Always want to buy just a minute or two more of that "MY" time!
However, one sip of caffeine, and all that changes. Go! Do! Act! Pray! Be!
For split second, wonder what the day will present as it unfolds?
I like to read your stuff, Peep! thanks!
PEACE!
I love those early morning hours too. Never quite got in the habit of hitting the button. I kept my clock across the room in high school...good habit I guess. ;-)
Ah, those precious moments. Sometimes I'll stay up all night just for a kiss from the quiet, the morning, again. I really enjoyed this. I could hear you sing parts of it. Still remember how voice is. Missed you. Very nice.
Girl, I feel this one in my bones and live it every morning!
Agh! know those feelings! Well described. k.
It is my morning time when I go out to find privacy & solitude, in which I write. I understand this so well. Good poem.
38 minutes remain.
Smell of coffee now
co-mingling
with the scent of dew soaked grass
i like this stanza
You are wanting your sleep girlfriend!!! Yes, I love this, I do this, count the minutes wanting to stay put. I like this, lighter than usual, yet nice. gardenlilie.com
...too perfect to know its own value...rare moments indeed...enjoyed reading the images...and your post at dverse...heart warming dream...thank you..
Precious times of the day, Tash.
Thanks for the prompt today ~ awesome write :)
Oh the pressure of time and the need for solitude. So well expressed!
"the moment
too perfect to know its own value."
beautiful line!
a little solitude to center oneself is such a wonderful way to start a day.
love your imagery.
♥
really nicely penned Tash. I love the imagery, the metaphors, symbols but how I love the final stanza, the characterizations brought to life there, outstanding read. thanks
Great write..being retired has its benefits,,,but important to appreciate each a.m with the same precious awareness you set forth ..thanks ;)
Nice!
Oh the morning reprieve. I've become so addicted to it that I just wake earlier and earlier. This morning I was making my coffee at 3:52 am.
I love how you've captured it...as well as the sense of everyone else soon to wake...
Certainly know about those moments that don't know their own value Tash.. worth their weight :)
Like how to draw out the time, hanging...
priceless
the soliloquy of any wife, mother...
those precious moments all to one self
That photo looks like a water color- lovely and goes well with the poem about lovely, solitary moments.
I kinda relate to this... my time before my domestic overs around... or I will have to step out in the buzz... quiet moments of the morning... SNOOZE
Hugs xoxo
The sun is a 'rowdy lion'- love this...but what a capture of those first waking moments .... You took me there for sure
I do believe I have a new favorite Tashtoo poem. :) So very serene.
I too cherish the few minutes I have to myself before the world is turned upside down. I understand!
Those moments where time and the sun compel you to rise and you resist a time that can be used for thought and solitude even anticipation to events
A very nicely paced account of the cherishing of that oasis time that comes with the rising of the sun and the rising of the family! I like the sun as a 'rowdy lion'!
Lovely Natasha, I can only dream of having those moments!
